New film, “Servando Magdamag” will feature John Lloyd Cruz. Is this his come back?


John Lloyd Cruz has stayed out of the spotlight for more than a year. Even so, netizens and fans alike have been keeping tabs on him way back in 2017 when he announced his indefinite leave in showbiz, also after he and actress, Ellen Adarna, welcomed a child in 2018.

In 2019, the actor had a cameo role on the film “Cullion”. John Lloyd is meant to be in Showbiz after all. He will be starring in the upcoming film, ‘Servando Magdamag’ directed by Lav Diaz and award-winning writer Ricky Lee.

The cast for ‘Servando Magdamag’ was finalized even before the pandemic came. As it seems, John Lloyd was already planning his come back way back in 2019. He was spotted having a conversation with former Negros Occidental Congressman Albee Benitez. Benitez is the head of Brightlight Productions and has expressed his support to John Lloyd.

Diaz have dreamed of producing the film since he was in College in Ateneo De Manila and now he believes that John Lloyd is perfect for the role of the protagonist.

Diaz felt that the story of Servando Magdamag resonates with him. The story is set back when Philippines is under the Spanish Regime.

The movie will be produced by Black Sheep who also shared a sneak peak of the film which already started filming.

John Lloyd was one of ABS-CBN’s star talents that was featured in numerous movies and TV Shows.

He is best known in his role as ‘Popoy’ with love team Bea Alonzo in the movie, “One More Chance”. Years later, the sequel “Second Chance” was released which was also a blockbuster movie that year.

He had numerous films and TV Series with co-star Bea Alonzo such as, ‘Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay’ (2002), ‘It Might Be You’ (2003), and ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ (2006).

His film with Sarah Geronimo was also another block buster movie, “A Very Special Love” (2008) which also had a sequel, “It Takes A Man and A Woman” (2013).
